Plumbers in Bandera, Texas

Bidet seats have gone from unusual to routine, and most of them are sold as a fifteen minute job. On a fair number of the houses out here, they are not, and the reasons are all visible before anything is unpacked.

The version that really is simple

A non-electric bidet seat or attachment tees off the cold supply feeding the toilet cistern, using the existing stop valve. Where that stop turns freely, the supply line is in reasonable condition and the fitting is a standard size, it genuinely is a short job.

Two things stop it being simple. An old stop valve that will not turn, or that will not seal again after being moved, has to be replaced first, and that is a small repair rather than a fitting. And an older house may have a supply arrangement that no adapter in the box will match.

Neither is expensive. Both are the reason a job sold as fifteen minutes turns into an afternoon, and both are obvious if somebody looks under the cistern before ordering.

Pressure, power and what our water does to them

Pressure. These fittings want a reasonable working pressure, and houses on a well or at the end of a long rural line sometimes sit below what the manufacturer assumes. Measure before buying, particularly for a model advertising adjustable spray.

Hardness. Hill country water leaves scale, and a bidet seat is full of small passages and a fine nozzle. Units here need their self-cleaning routine used and descaling at the interval the manual gives rather than when performance drops. A water softener already fitted for other reasons will extend the life of one considerably.

Power. Heated seats and warm water need a socket, and bathroom outlets have to be properly protected. In an older house there may simply not be one, and running a lead from the hallway is not the answer. That is an electrician's job and worth pricing before choosing a model.

Worth saying: a non-electric unit avoids all of that and uses the household's cold supply, which in summer here is not cold at all.

A standalone bidet, and how we work

A separate bidet fixture is a different project. It needs hot and cold supplies, a waste with a trap, and a vent arrangement that suits the group, plus floor space next to the toilet that most bathrooms in these houses do not have.

It is also the moment the protection question arises. A fixture with an outlet that can sit below a flood level needs the appropriate protection built into the design, which is standard on properly specified units and worth confirming rather than assuming on an imported one.

For most households, a good seat on the existing toilet delivers the same result for a fraction of the work, and we will say so rather than sell a bigger job.

We fit seats, replace tired stops while we are there, and plumb standalone fixtures where the room allows. Bandera, Pipe Creek, Medina and Lakehills are all within our area.

FAQ

Bidets and washlets in Bandera

When the stop valve under the cistern turns freely and the supply is a standard size, yes. In older houses the stop often will not move or will not reseal, and replacing it is what turns the job into an afternoon.

Measure it first, particularly on a well or at the end of a rural line. Models with adjustable spray assume a working pressure that some properties here do not have.

It scales the nozzle and the internal passages. Use the self-cleaning cycle, descale at the interval the manual gives rather than waiting for poor performance, and expect a softened house to get noticeably longer life.

Either choose a non-electric model or have a properly protected outlet installed by an electrician. Running an extension lead into a bathroom is not an acceptable substitute.

Only if the room has the space and you want the fixture. It needs hot and cold, a trapped waste and proper venting, and for most households a seat on the existing toilet achieves the same thing far more cheaply.

Yes, and on anything older it is worth doing as part of the visit. A stop that has not moved in fifteen years is the component most likely to cause trouble later.
